Ear seeds

Tiny seeds taped to points on the outer ear, which you press yourself between visits. There is no needle.

Ear seeds are small seeds, held on the ear with a bit of tape. Your acupuncturist chooses a few points on each ear. You press the seeds gently a few times a day, and after several days you peel them off.

Who usually comes

  • People who want something to do between visits

  • People who are nervous about needles

  • People with a busy week who can't come often

A visit

What a visit is like, in order

  1. 01

    Step 1: We talk

What you want from the visit, and whether tape bothers your skin.

  2. 02

Step 2: We clean the ear

A quick wipe of each ear before the seeds go on.

  3. 03

Step 3: The seeds go on

A few small seeds on each ear. Pressing should feel like gentle pressure.

  4. 04

Step 4: Instructions to take home

How to press, how long to keep them on and when to peel them off.

Good to know

Before and after

  • What you may feel afterward

A little tenderness at the points when you press. Some people get itching from the tape. If an ear turns red, itchy or sore, take the seeds off and tell us.

  • Tell us first

An allergy to tape or adhesive, a sore or broken ear, pregnancy (we skip some ear points), blood thinners or a bleeding disorder.

  • How many visits

Your acupuncturist suggests a plan at your first visit. It is a suggestion, not a promise, and results vary. You can change it or stop at any time.

  • What it does not do, and when to see a doctor

It does not replace your doctor, your medicine or emergency care. See a doctor first for sudden, severe pain, chest pain, trouble breathing, new weakness or numbness, or loss of bladder or bowel control. In an emergency, call 911.
